Coach Dana MacKenzie- Director

Dana is the founder and director of Wisconsing Swing Basketball. Dana played high school basketball at Madison Edgewood, and college basketball at Madison Area Technichal College. He later graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a degree in physical education and health education. Dana has just completed his 6th season as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Waunakee H.S. winning a 3rd straight Badger North Conference Championship, and second straight Regional Championship . Dana's coaching career began in 1993 as a volunteer assistant freshman coach at Madison Memorial High School. From there he joined the coaching staff at Madison Edgewood, under Chris Zwettler, for 7 years. He spent two years as the head coach of Pecatonica High School, leading them to two 20 win seasons, 1 conference championship, and a state runner-up finish in 2001. After a brief stay at St. Mary's University as an assistant coach, Dana accepted his current position in Waunakee.
Dana is currently the Director of Operations at the Impact Sports Enhancement Academy in Stoughton, WI.
Dana is a certified in CPR, First AID, ASEP,and teaching.
Dana is married to Tina, and they have a son, Kaden who will turn 2 on May 2, 2008.

Coach Tyler Selk is a Randolph (WI) High School grad. While there, he was a member of the varsity for 4 years on teams that compiled a combined 96-9 record with two WIAA Division IV state championships (’96 & ’98) and one state runner-up finish (’97). Tyler then went on to play college basketball at UW-Platteville. As a redshirt freshman in 1999, Tyler was a member of Bo Ryan’s last national championship basketball team at UWP. A 2003 graduate, Selk ended his career as the No. 2 all-time leading scorer and rebounder in Pioneer history. He also holds career records for consecutive starts (103) and free throws attempted (501). Since finishing his playing career, Tyler went on to assist Dana Mackenzie on the Waunakee High School Varsity staff (’03- Present). Currently, Tyler works in the Sun Prairie Area School District as a 6th grade social studies and language arts teacher.

Dave is a 1977 Graduate of
Carroll College- named D-III All American and received a free agent try-out
with the Milw. Bucks in 1977. He coached College basketball for five years. Three years
as head coach at Marian College in Fond du Lac, one as a graduate assistant at Virginia
Commonwealth University in Richmond( Tubby Smith/UK Coach and Dave Hobbs
former head coach at Alabama and now Tubby's top asst were on that staff),
and one as the top assistant at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. While at Marian Dave's team
won two conference championships and he was named coach of the year three
straight years. In 1981 VCU won the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and
qualified for the NCAA tournament losing in the first round to eventual
final four participant Iowa . At UCF they were a D-II school and qualified for
the NCAA tournament. Dave has coached AAU basketball for five years and
has taken two teams from the Madison area to National AAU tournaments and
has finished in the top three at WI state AAU twice.

Coach Justin Litscher

Justin played his high school basketball at Baraboo and college basketball at Madison area Technical College. He was his team's captain in both high school and college. Justin currently is employed full-time with the Department of Natural Resources in Madison and has his degree in Hotel Management. Justin's coaching career began in 1998 as Baraboo's head freshman coach and continued at Baraboo through 2001 as the Head Varsity assistant. He has also worked as Baraboo's summer coach and as Baraboo Hoops 1-2-3 coach (first, second, and third graders). Justin has also worked various summer camps through the years. Justin is currently an assistant coach at Madison Area Technical College.

Coach Bench is a 2001 graduate of Madison Edgewood High School, where as a freshman he played basketball for Edgewood alum and Swing Director Dana Mackenzie. He went to state as a junior, part of an 18-5 squad that advanced to the final WISAA state tournament in 2000. As a senior, he was a starter on a squad that again went 18-5 and won the first WIAA regional title in school history, eventually losing in the sectional semi-finals. He was a three sport athlete in high school, earning all-conference honors in football his senior year. He graduated in 2006 from UW-Madison with a degree in Economics and currently works for the Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce Foundation in Madison.

Coach Mike Hanson

Mike Hanson is in his second year coaching 5th grade girls basketball for Wisconsin Swing. Prior to coaching youth girls basketball, he coached for the Middleton Bluebirds and St. Maria Goretti grade school boys teams. Mike played high school basketball with Dana MacKenzie, the founder of Wisconsin Swing, where they have been friends for over 20 years. Mike is married and has three children and resides in the Madison area.

Coach Mark Nelson

Mark Nelson grew up in Madison, WI and graduated from Madison East High School in 1987. He was the point guard on the Madion East team that made the State Semi-Finals in 1987. Nelson also played college basketball at Lawrence University and MATC. Nelson has been a teacher in the Stoughton, Marshall, and Madison School district where he currently teaches mathematics. Academically, Nelson has particular interest in Educational Leadership culminating with a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Wisconsin in 2004. Presently, Nelson is using his passion for leadership in teaching mathematics and coaching tons of youth basketball. Nelson has 5 sons that keep him very busy in the youth basketball circuit. Nelson's basketball coaching career includes experiences as varsity coach at Marshall High School, assistant at Edgewood College, YMCA All-Star Programs, and many others. Nelson has also been varsity tennis coach, golf coach, and volleyball coach at Madison East High School. Nelson is committed to serving our youth as an educator, parent, and coach.
